Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions.
One of the most concerning problems throughout the world is air pollution. Indoor air pollution is considered the leading cause of lung cancer. Many people in developing countries use open stoves for cooking and heating at home while they do not have proper ventilation. The smoke is trapped inside the house where all family members live every day.
Outdoor pollution also leads to disease and illness in big cities such as Beijing, China. China relies heavily on coal, which is seen as the major pollutant. According to the European Union, only 1% of urban citizens in China can breathe clean air per day. Nearby countries such as Japan, Korea, Viet Nam receive much of China's pollution in the form of acid rain. The coal powered factories, which produce products for North American and European consumers, lead to this pollution. Outdoor air pollution is also a problem in developed countries, especially for people who live in urban centres such as San Francisco or London. They may experience many warm days beneath a layer of smog.
